Okay, it’s true. I’m in love with my cat. I’ve had my share of significant others (see my rants about males sometime) and I have decided that my cat is the most wonderful being (besides my mother but she is human, that’s a different species) in my life.
How do I describe this cat of mine? Well, to the outside world she is just the meanest unapproachable cat (kinda like me). She puts up great big walls so that strangers cannot get into her world (again, like me), she will hide instead of getting near others (kinda..yeah) and she will only get close to others in a very slow manner. A sniff here and a flick of the tail there. Any loud sounds will have her skittering to the nearest safety zone – generally under my bed. That’s her outside persona.
The cat I know is the biggest sweetheart who is damned smart in some ways and clumsy in others. She loves to curl up on my lap when she knows I am feeling bad, she does the silliest things to cheer me up as well. She purrs divinely and will stretch out on the floor as far as she can just so that I cannot resist the temptation. Then the claws come out!
I worry about her when I need to go away, I make sure that she is comfortable and has the best food out there. She greets me at the door when I come home and she definitely knows how to tell me the litter box needs cleaning.
A little story about how I came across little Sashira. I was living in Southern California and on one afternoon I don’t know what sparked my butt in going to the mall, but I decided I needed something. At the mall they had a pet rescue kiosque, that I had gone to many times to pet all the cats/dogs I could.
On the floor there was an enclosure with 5 or so kittens inside. Of course I dove right in! I found this cute kitten to snuggle with, when I noticed this big burly type of gentleman was in front of me doing the same thing, but the cat in his arms was absolutely discontent. Struggling to wrangle free, I found it amusing that he just couldn’t keep a good hold on it. So as I bent down to put back the kitten in my hands and was about to go for another, when that fella with the kitty finally put down his kitten. I think he made a comment, but I’m not sure. At that moment, the kitten jumped from his hands, onto my right hand and climbed all the way up to my shoulder.
As I was filling out her adoption forms – she was on my shoulder.
As I walked out to my car – she was on my shoulder.
As I drove home – she was on my shoulder.
As I stopped at a pet store to get her litter and food – she abandoned me for the toys to climb in.
But she came back and has been with me ever since.
She is the most beautiful cat imaginable, she has personality and she has trained me well to worship her.
I think it’s a good deal.
